We aim to advance sugarcane research, technology, and sustainability through collaborative projects, university and student research, and global partnerships, enhancing the university’s reputation and contributing to the sugar industry’s growth.
The research activities of the Institute have been mainly in the area of sugarcane agriculture with specific emphasis on the development of effective field management strategies for high yields of sugarcane.
The short-term research activities are expected to yield useful result in the area of weed management, disease control and information on the suitability of different imported sugarcane varieties for commercial cultivation in the sugar cane estates.
The long-term research activities of the Institute centre on the development of new and improved sugarcane varieties with wide adaptation to the local conditions, high cane yields and resistance to the common pests and diseases of the crop.
